Becoming a mom...that should be easy, right?

My name is Brandy and I never would have thought that at the age of 29 my life would be like this. When I was in high school and knew it all I had it all planned out... graduate college, find a man, get married, get a job, and have 2 kids (Tatum Nicollette and Jackson Teagan)...no problem God, I've got this in the bag. Man was I ever WRONG!! College graduation was no problem, school was always easy... finding a man, after a few Mr. Wrongs I did find Mr. Right while still in college... so far so good. Get married, somewhat stressful but a completely and memorable experience. While on the honeymoon I had a job interview (exactly where I wanted to teach), get the job.... life is sooooooo easy! Now onto the part that should be super easy... right? I see pregnant women all the time, how hard can this really be? Four out of the five things on my "life to-do list" have been checked off now I'll kick back and let nature take it's toll. Boy was I ever wrong! I've been married and teaching for seven years and still no dice?!?! Hello... God... did you miss that last request?...I said 2 kids!

After 4.5 years of childlessness I had an epiphany... those don't happen often but when it happens it's good. Here's the thought... why the hell an I putting myself and my poor husband through this horrible-hormonal-hiatus? I mean seriously... who voluntarily gets poked and prodded and medicated all to have a baby? There are babies everywhere that need love and here I am having a pity party for one instead of doing what God was trying to tell me all along and I just wasn't listening. The day I told Dr. Small (strange name seeing as how during a PAP Smear nothing she used was "small") we were going to ditch this route to be traditional parents and seek other options were the best most freeing words that I have uttered.

Do not be fooled, this route of foster to adopt was not a cake walk by far. Loving kids only to have them given back to their families who were not competent to care for them initially sucks! But as I reminisce on all those little wonderful blessings I see how each crappy outcome only made us stronger, closer, and more prepared and grateful for the day we got to become REAL PARENTS!!

In my next post I'll talk more about the wonderful blessing we get to call ours and the journey that got us there plus how it was working with DCS instead of a private agency... stay tuned!
